Y’sholta’s shafting was a good thing because she would have added nothing to the plot other then another mouth piece. And, probably end up repeating there mistake in HW with her taking what should have been Ysayle’s place during the latter half of HW so they could more cleanly fill out her story arc.
And it’s not like she was the only one shafted Thancred’s existence was literally ignored until they needed someone to be sneaky-sneaky.So, atleast she got a reason why she was out of the story. Thancred would have had more emotional weight to add the story as he was basically the adopted father of Minfilia.
