Mabinogi is removing copyrighted music from their music board pretty regularly though, they just don’t have a way to punish players for making it as long as it’s not distributed.

Well, the point in this case was that Mabinogi didn’t completely remove (or threaten to remove) the whole system just because people were making covers of copyrighted songs. Them removing the music from the board is fine (because they could get sued for that). It’s the whole “We’ll get rid of this whole system we spent time developing if you do covers of copyrighted songs” is overkill especially because they wouldn’t be in any form of legal trouble.

You can’t sue a company just because a product they made was used in the process of copyright infringement or else Crypton would have been sued into non-existence over the amount of songs just Miku’s been used for.
