Why does Indivisible keep making the character designs worse in a lot of the cases?

I can assure you diversity is not the reason why Baozhai looks like ass

Baozhai got rekt but their reasoning is that animating the more complex pieces was too much work compared to the designs that came out. Foo dog cannons come to mind. They put animation over intricacy which is ass but concept art typically looks doper than the final result in most things, so it’s not exactly unforgivable

They whole “Concept art looks better then the final product” thing really isn’t true. Most of the time it’s subjective and most people who tout it as true are being contrarian :/

That said I’m not against simplifying the design for the purpose of easier animation/drawing but you have to do it well which they did not do in the case of Baozhai, or Kampan’s case where the designs are just plain worse. And, I don’t think Kampan’s original design really needed to be simplified/changed all that much especially when they’re going to use CG for her fist which was the most complex part of her design.
