Lovecraft has a very... deliberate? style which is good at forming ideas and images in your head, but not the best for characterization, which is understandable considering he wrote short stories and it was much more about the events than the characters. He does a good enough job dealing with making good believable characters for the era and his exploration of the concepts and themes of Cosmic Horror are amazing IMO. All in all, dry writing that tells the story well.
