MINOR RACE MY FUCKING ASS
As a long-time begger, this worries me greatly. Not only the “minor race” thing, but the fact they’re referred to as “Viera”, when every other playable race in FFXIV goes by a name unique to the game (as far as I’m aware). So if Viera were to come in as playable race, then it would make sense for them to as well.
My only hopes here are either that they wanted to tease us for the up-coming playable race by mentioning Viera, and not just a beast trip as we’re now fearing.
Or, that maybe the main branch, Viera, are just a minor unplayable race, and it’ll be a different branch that’ll be playable.
The devs have shown us concept art in the past, Yoshi himself has told us not to give-up on them, and they’re well aware how wanted Viera are a playable race. So to just throw them in as NPCs would do nothing good for them, and likely cause them endless headache as the player base scream at them for said fuckery (myself included, I gotta say).
The name thing (for Hyur, Miqo’te, Lalafell, Elezen, and Roe) was before Yoshi-P was apart of the game (i.e. before everyone was aware 1.0 was a dumpster fire). So, it’s possible that Yoshi-P is just gonna call Viera what they instead of some different name instead of a new name especially when all the other Ivalician races that have made it into XIV have been called by there Ivalician name.
The minor race thing probably refers to them being less populous then Hyur/Elezen then their possible playablity.
Keep in mind that Viera are also highly reclusive and xenophobic to outside races.
It also seems to be implied by the dialogue that the Seeq, Bangaa, and Viera are only found in the region of Ivalice in it’s FFXIV incarnation.
Not sure what either of those points are supposed to be for. Against them being playable? Because in XIV the Au Ra weren’t native to Eorzea and they’re playable (and this’ll probably apply to all new races going forward).
The xenophobia thing doesn’t matter at all because like even in 12, or the FFT games their were viera that left the woods and integrated with the other races. Obviously, the playable ones would be the ones that weren’t Xenophobes.
