Sony's attempting to appeal more to western markets by trying to minimize/remove the "weird" parts of the PS library, even though those niche things were what drew people to Sony consoles in the first place. They were ahead for a while, and like any big company that's in the lead for a bit, they needed to shoot themselves in the foot.
