I’m getting a weird error with XIV that it won’t…

Maybe try restarting your computer? That’s what I do when star wars the old republic wont download the new patch, apparently one of the processes ends up idling in the background and so the download cant proceed. Maybe it’s the same with final fantasy?

I managed to get it to work by deleting FFXIV_BOOT.cfg.
